Zero-Waste Policy

Zero Waste

In accordance with the Zero Waste Regulation published in the Official Gazette No. 20829, our Vocational School has:

  • Completed all necessary planning to achieve its Zero Waste objectives.
  • Established a comprehensive Zero Waste Management System, including the separation of waste at its source, temporary storage, and delivery of recyclable waste to licensed recycling companies.
  • Successfully implemented sustainable environmental management practices.

As a result of these efforts, our Vocational School was awarded the Zero Waste Certificate in 2023, which is valid until 2028.

Zero Waste Commission – Roles and Responsibilities

1. Chair of the Commission

  • Lead and manage the activities of the Commission.
  • Ensure effective communication between the University Administration and the Commission.
  • Set the agenda and chair Commission meetings.
  • Coordinate and monitor the implementation of Commission decisions.
  • Ensure that the reports prepared by the Commission are submitted to the University Administration.

2. Unit Coordinator (Faculty/Vocational School Secretary)

  • Coordinate the Commission's activities at the faculty or vocational school level.
  • Ensure effective coordination among academic representatives, administrative representatives, and the student representative within the unit.
  • Plan and facilitate the implementation of Zero Waste policies at the unit level.
  • Ensure that all Zero Waste activities carried out within the unit are properly documented and reported.
  • Maintain regular communication with the University Zero Waste Coordination Office.
  • Conduct official correspondence related to Zero Waste through the unit secretariat and follow up on official documents.
  • Organize training sessions, awareness campaigns, and informational activities within the unit.
  • Ensure that the Commission's decisions are implemented within the unit and that implementation results are reported.
  • Organize internal inspections and monitoring activities when necessary and report any identified issues to the Commission.

3. Commission Members (Academic Staff)

  • Ensure the effective implementation of Zero Waste practices within their respective departments.
  • Organize awareness activities for academic staff and students.
  • Monitor source separation of waste and recycling processes.
  • Submit reports on departmental Zero Waste activities to the Commission.
  • Promote Zero Waste awareness through educational and academic activities.
  • Review Commission agenda items and provide opinions and recommendations.
  • Monitor developments related to Zero Waste and report them to the Commission.
  • Communicate departmental issues and challenges to the Commission.
  • Support the implementation of Commission decisions.
  • Contribute to the University's overall Zero Waste initiatives.
  • Promote the sharing of best practices by comparing successful implementations across different units.
  • Participate in data collection and reporting processes.
  • Monitor the implementation of Commission decisions and provide feedback.
  • Take an active role in training, awareness, and educational activities.
  • Contribute to organizing activities that enhance Zero Waste awareness among staff.
  • Make recommendations for potential collaborations with external organizations and institutions.
  • Participate in the Commission's decision-making process through voting.

4. Zero Waste Student Representative

  • Promote Zero Waste awareness among students.
  • Develop projects in collaboration with student clubs and organizations.
  • Organize Zero Waste-themed events, campaigns, and social responsibility projects.
  • Communicate students' suggestions and requests to the Commission.
  • Ensure continuity of student representation by supporting the transition to newly elected representatives.

5. Administrative Unit Representative (Zero Waste Volunteer)

  • Ensure waste separation at the source within administrative units.
  • Inform and raise awareness among administrative staff regarding Zero Waste practices.
  • Monitor and report the implementation of Zero Waste activities.
  • Regularly report the quantity, types, and recycling rates of waste generated within the unit to the Commission.
  • Develop innovative ideas and contribute to the continuous improvement of Zero Waste practices.

6. General Responsibilities of the Commission

  • Develop and update the University's Zero Waste policies.
  • Ensure that Zero Waste objectives are incorporated into the University's strategic plans.
  • Coordinate and monitor Zero Waste activities across all academic and administrative units.
  • Organize training, awareness, and information activities.
  • Establish and monitor Zero Waste performance indicators and prepare relevant reports.
  • Ensure that Zero Waste practices and related activities are published and regularly updated on the University's official website.

Zero Waste Policy

  • Continuously improving Zero Waste practices across all educational units.
  • Supporting the efficient use of natural resources and minimizing waste generation.
  • Encouraging the participation of all stakeholders in environmental sustainability initiatives.
  • Ensuring compliance with national environmental legislation and the principles of sustainable development.
